2008/09 was an exciting year and was very busy and successful for everyone at CHMS. Thank you to children, staff and parents for making it so.
There were so many exciting events, visits, plays and sporting and musical activities that the children and sometimes parents have taken part in.
We have been very proud of the way in which the children have represented the school whether it has been through something that has been organised by the school or by participation in local clubs and teams outside of school hours. The children have so often throughout the year been a credit to themselves, the school and you, their parents.
Their behaviour and attitudes have been recognised by event organisers, visitors and member so the public who have taken the trouble to relay their positive comments to members of staff. Most of all I am delighted with the way that the children have responded to the increased expectations of them with regard to their learning. Some have not always found this easy but the majority are working hard and taking great pride in the results that they are achieving. We will continue to provide support for children who need to “catch up” - please do contact us if you are at all concerned.
We have also been very appreciative of all the support that you have given your children and the school by helping with homework, attending events, working in partnership with teachers and pastoral support staff, and particularly thanks to the parents who have worked in school making such a difference to the children’s reading skills and accompanying on visits.
Children and staff in all year groups have worked extremely hard with pleasing results giving the school a good platform from which to build. I am particularly pleased to be able to share with you this year’s unconfirmed Year 6 SATs results. Children have “worked their socks off” to ensure that the results are an accurate reflection of what they are able to achieve.
We are delighted that the results show significant improvement in all areas and that they compare very favourably with Poole and national averages—in particular in English and children achieving level 5s in English and maths. We will continue in our drive to raise standards with a particular focus on maths in the coming year.
Obviously the outcome of the SATs is on “performance indicator” that the Ofsted team will look at in the Autumn term when we very much hope that we will come out of special measures.
The team will also be evaluating the work of the school against the new Ofsted Framework for inspection which includes an even greater emphasis on the views of parents/carers. Please ask at the office if you have not received the brief questionnaire regarding your views and suggestions regarding our school.
We are committed to providing the very best education for your children so that they are able to achieve their best in all ares of their development. I would like to thank the staff team for all their dedication and hard work in responding very positively to a wide range of new initiatives. There has been a very positive atmosphere in school al year despite the very fast pace of change.
And finally we wish all the pupils who are moving on to their new schools in September every success for the future. All the staff at CHMS hope you have a really good break and that the good weather we have just had wasn’t our summer!
